CANON IC INFORMATION:
character name: Grovyle
canon & medium: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, gameverse
species & appearance: Pokemon, specifically a species of Pokemon named (shockingly enough) Grovyle
age: ??????? HE GREW UP IN A PLACE WHERE TIME DIDN'T FLOW. Gonna guesstimate that he's in the rough equivalent of late teens early twenties, which probably equates to more than five but less than ten years Pokemon-wise? LIKE I SAID IDEFK.
world info: n/a
history: Much of Grovyle's history is left vague and undefined, up to the player to guess exactly what happened. However there are a few things that are clear - the first of which that he was born and grew up in the midst of the planet's paralysis - a horrible post-apocalyptic state where everything is frozen and time doesn't move, there are no days, nights, seasons, or anything of the sort, and most Pokemon are hostile and violent.

At some point during this period, Grovyle met with others who opposed the world's current paralyzed state and were working to restore it to what it was, a group called the Planetary Investigation Team. The mention of this group is SO SLIGHT AND THROWAWAY (SHAKES FIST AT SKY) that we barely know anything about it, but presumably we can guess that it was a small, scattered group, comprised of both humans and Pokemon. This group knew that the only way to restore the world was to go back in time, back to when time still flowed, and to prevent the planet's paralysis, though they weren't sure how to do this at that point. They were willing to do this at great cost, however - changing the past would doubtless erase all of them from history; it was a cost each member accepted, however.

During this time, Grovyle ended up teaming up with a particular human, with whom he bonded very closely. Over time, this human (the PC of PMD) was found to have a very rare and strange ability, called the Dimensional Scream. Through this ability, the human, at certain points, was able to peer back through time in flashes. Through this ability, they learned about how, by finding and taking objects scattered around the world of the past, called Time Gears, and placing them in Temporal Tower, the domain of Dialga (deity of time), they could prevent its collapse, which was the ultimate cause of the planet's paralysis. The PC's Dimensional Scream only activated in proximity with where Time Gears had been located, allowing Grovyle and the PC to ascertain their locations.

However, Dialga, who had reverted to a dark and primeval form after Temporal Tower's collapse, opposed all efforts to change the past. Grovyle and the PC were hunted all throughout their journey by Dialga's deputy, Dusknoir, and his many many Sableye minions.

Despite this, Grovyle and the PC were able to gather the information they needed. They also managed to get in contact with the time travelling Pokemon, Celebi, implied to be a member of the group they were both a part of. When they had gathered the information they needed, they went to meet Celebi in Dusk Forest, with Dusknoir and the Sableye right on their heels, and travelled back to the past.

However, during the journey back, something went wrong. On their way back through time, the two of them were attacked by Darkrai, who also preferred the dark world of the planet's paralysis. The PC, realizing what was happening, threw themselves in the way and took the blow for Grovyle. Grovyle meanwhile, who did not realize what was going on, believed that they were encountering some kind of turbulence. Regardless, the result was the same - Grovyle and the PC were separated just as they landed in the past.

When Grovyle awoke, he was alone; however, he marveled at the difference of a world where time flowed, seeing the sun rise, feeling the wind blow, all for the first time in his life. He could not tarry however. Because he knew he had to hurry to gather the Time Gears and find the location of Temporal Tower, for in the past, it lay hidden in a separate dimension. He trusted that the PC would do the same.

He moved as quickly as possible, collecting two Time Gears in quick succession. However not all went quite as planned. Removing Time Gears from their place in the past caused time to freeze in a small localized area around where it had been, causing a great deal of panic. Generally, tampering with the Time Gears even in the slightest was seen in the past as the lowest of the low, an utterly despicable act. Grovyle kept hidden to avoid interference as he continued to search.

When he reached the location of the third Time Gear at Fogbound Lake, he found a bit of a surprise. While he knew full well about the guardian of Fogbound Lake's time Gear, Uxie, and how to stop Uxie from wiping his memory, some of what the guardian said was puzzling. Uxie claimed that other visitors had been to the lake recently, and that Uxie had decided not to wipe their memories, a decision that Uxie now regretted, believing Grovyle had been sent by them. Grovyle assured Uxie that he was acting alone, and after defeating them, took the Time Gear at Fogbound Lake. However, Uxie was now able to reveal Grovyle's identity, turning him into a wanted outlaw in the past.

The mystery of the visitors at Fogbound Lake was deemed irrelevant though, and his own legal status a further reason to hurry. Grovyle pressed onwards to the other Time Gear locations. The next target was the Underground Lake at Quicksand Cave. However, when he arrived there, he found that two Pokemon (the PC and their partner, though Grovyle did not recognize the former, given that they were no longer human) from a local Guild (the Wigglytuff Guild) had beaten him there, and had defeated the Guardian of the Underground Lake, Mesprit. Mesprit, warned by Uxie, had believed them to be thieves after the Time Gear. He took advantage of the situation, and used the element of surprise to knock them all out of the way and steal Underground Lake's Time Gear.

He fled, making his way quickly to the third lake, Crystal Lake, which was also the location of the last Time Gear he needed. He arrived there before anyone else, and managed to defeat the guardian of Crystal Lake, Azelf. However, Azelf set off protections against him, burying the Time Gear beneath a wall of crystal. When he attempted to try to force Azelf to take down the defenses and give him the Time Gear, the same two Pokemon whom he had encountered at the Underground Lake stood in the way. He fought with them, and though it was a difficult fight, he defeated them. Even so, the PC's partner continued to stand in his way, defending Azelf despite grievous injuries. Determined and slightly desperate, he moved to strike a fatal blow, when he was stopped by Dusknoir. Dusknoir, as it happened, had followed Grovyle and the PC to the past in order to stop them. He created the false persona of a famous explorer, and was helping the Wigglytuff Guild to track him down. Knowing that he couldn't take the Time Gear at that point, Grovyle fled.

Several days later, Grovyle heard of a rumor passed around that Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit were about to attempt to seal the Time Gear at Crystal Lake so that it could never be stolen. Desperately, he attempted to reach them before that could happen. However, the whole thing was a trap, and Dusknoir and his Sableye cronies captured him, and took him back to the future - to the planet's paralysis.

There, in the future, Dusknoir set up an execution for Grovyle. However, Grovyle found that he was not the only one up on the metaphorical chopping block; the selfsame two Pokemon that he'd faced at the Underground and Crystal Lakes were there too. He helped the two with a very narrow escape, and the three of them fled together. However, they soon split up, the PC and their partner not willing to trust Grovyle after his actions in the past. He moved on ahead, wanting to find Celebi to return to the past. He was stalled when he ran across a rogue Spiritomb, and the PC and their partner caught up with him and rescued him.

He explained to them about his perspective, why he was doing what he was doing. The partner was still skeptical, but the PC was less so, and in the end, they opted to trust him, at least far enough to work with him to get back to the past.

The three of them moved forward and met Celebi, who agreed to send them back to the past again. However, just as she was about to send them, they found an ambush by Dusknoir and none other than Primal Dialga himself. Seeing the situation as hopeless, Grovyle conceded defeat, believing that his partner was still back in the past, continuing his work. However, it was then that the delighted Dusknoir revealed that Grovyle's partner was none other than the PC, a human turned Pokemon with the power of the Dimensional Scream who had lost their memory. For a moment, Grovyle nearly lost hope entirely, however, the partner Pokemon devised a plan that allowed them to escape back into the past.

For a brief while, Grovyle, the PC, and the partner hid, recuperating and talking to each other more frankly, given what he had learned. The reaffirmed their desire to save the future. The three of them began searching for Time Gears again; however they quickly found that the situation had deteriorated in their absence - Temporal Tower was closer to collapse than ever. The three of them split up - Grovyle to collect the Time Gears, and the PC and their partner to go back to the Wigglytuff Guild to try to discover the location to Temporal Tower.

Just as he finished collecting the Time Gears, Wigglytuff himself, leader of the Wigglytuff Guild, found Grovyle and brought him to Brine Cave, where the PC and their partner had discovered the route to the land where Temporal Tower resided, the Hidden Land. Upon arriving there, the three of them boarded Lapras, who took them across the Sea of Time, the bridge between the dimension of the world and the dimension of the Hidden Land.

They crossed the Hidden Land quickly, and reached the Rainbow Stoneship, which would take them up to Temporal Tower itself. However, they were ambushed at the Stoneship by Dusknoir and several Sableye cronies. The three of them fought, and they defeated Dusknoir after a difficult fight. The partner went to start up the Rainbow Stoneship; Grovyle and the PC stayed to guard Dusknoir and keep him from interfering.

At that point, Dusknoir attempted to undermine them at the last moment. First he attempted to shake the PC's resolve by revealing (since they had forgotten) how changing the future would erase them all, a fact that Grovyle sadly confirmed. When that ultimately failed, however, Dusknoir summoned the last of his strength and attempted to attack, if possible even kill the PC. Grovyle threw himself in the way, taking the blow. At that point, Grovyle realized the only way to keep Dusknoir from interfering was to make sure he couldn't. Summoning the last of his strength, Grovyle pulled himself to his feet, tackled the equally weak Dusknoir, and - after leaving the Time Gears and some parting words to the PC and their partner - dragged him bodily back to the future.

During the journey back, both Grovyle and Dusknoir were knocked unconscious. Grovyle awoke, followed shortly by Dusknoir. The two were prevented from fighting again by their injuries, and exchanged harsh words before Grovyle set off on his own. His goal was to try to reach Primal Dialga and fight him, thereby preventing Primal Dialga from sending someone back to interfere with the PC's efforts to change the future. In essence, he was trying to buy them some time. Dusknoir however, gave determined chase.

However, the tables unexpectedly turned when Dusknoir caught up with Grovyle at the same time as a group of Sableye. Dusknoir gave the Sableye the order to attack and they did. But what Dusknoir didn't expect was for their attacks to be aimed at himself as well as Grovyle. Together they drove off the attacking Sableye, and Dusknoir suggested a temporary truce with Grovyle to help them both deal with the dangers of the paralyzed planet's future better while they tried to figure out what was going on. Reluctantly, Grovyle agreed.

A brief while later, they managed to capture a Sableye and interrogate him about the situation. The Sableye revealed that Dialga had replaced Dusknoir with a new henchman after his failure in the past. Dusknoir was now determined to go with Grovyle to face Dialga, to ask his former master if they had truly discarded him, and to see his new replacement.

However, when they reached the Temporal Tower of the future, they found it deserted by Dialga and his followers. Dusknoir suggested that Dialga may have gone to hunt down Celebi in order to use her abilities to send his new henchman back to the past. Afraid for his friend, Grovyle immediately set off to Dusk Forest to find her, with Dusknoir in tow.

Upon reaching Dusk Forest, they found no sign of Celebi. However, Dialga had left an ambush of Sableye. Dusknoir and Grovyle fought and defeated them, capturing one and asking them for details on what had happened to Celebi and Dialga. The Sableye told them that Dialga had chased Celebi to a nearby island named Frozen Island. Once again, the two gave chase. However on the island itself, they were ambushed by several local Pokemon. Grovyle was nearly crushed by some falling ice, but Dusknoir pushed him out of the way and took the blow for him at the last moment.

Once they drove off the local Pokemon, Grovyle, noticing Dusknoir's injuries, called for a rest. During that time, Dusknoir questioned Grovyle about his resolve, saving the world despite knowing it would mean his death. Grovyle explained that his spirit would live on through the Pokemon he'd met and the things that he'd done, and that he wanted to do something with his life that proved he'd existed, not simply survive as long as possible. The two pressed on once more.

Not too long afterwards, they found Celebi, trapped. Grovyle rushed forward to try and rescue her, but walked right into a trap. Dusknoir revealed that they were in a location that slowly melted away the souls of those who visited. He himself had brought Grovyle to the point where the soul-decaying effect was most concentrated and trapped him there. When Grovyle's soul had been destroyed, Dusknoir then planned to possess and inhabit his body. Dialga would then send him back to the past, and the PC and their partner, thinking that it was Grovyle, their friend, would be extremely vulnerable. Thus, the "new henchman" that had been discussed was none other than Grovyle himself.

However, Grovyle appealed to Dusknoir's better nature, referring to the conversation they'd had about resolve and truly living. To everyone's surprise (particularly Dusknoir's himself), Grovyle's words had a powerful impact on him, and he knocked Grovyle out of the way of the soul-decaying effects of the forest at the last moment. However, Primal Dialga, displeased at Dusknoir's betrayal, appeared and began to attack him. The situation turned very dire, when suddenly the world began to change. The wind began to blow, the aurora showed itself above them, and the sky began to lighten as dawn approached.

Confused and enraged by this, Primal Dialga rushed off to try to get back to the past. Realizing that Dialga could cause incalculable damage if he were to try to travel through time in his current state, Grovyle, Dusknoir, and Celebi tore after him, even though they were already beginning to disappear as the future changed. They chased him to the top of Vast Ice Mountain and fought him, buying just enough time to stop Primal Dialga. However, the rest of their time was up, and Grovyle did his best to comfort Dusknoir and Celebi as they vanished.

Only they didn't. Grovyle awoke with the other two and Dialga, returned to their normal self. Dialga showed them how their world was being restored, and explained to them that a higher power (likely Arceus, though it's never directly said) intervened to stop them from disappearing. They vowed to support the new future, and Grovyle called a message to the winds, hoping that it would somehow let the PC and their partner know that they were alive and all right. And from there, he watched the sun rise at the dawn of a new world, ready to begin his new life in it.

powers: Grovyle, as a Pokemon, has several special abilities and powers. Personally speaking I ascribe to, so far as these powers go, a method/approach similar to the anime than the games. Which is to say that Pokemon moves are just names applied to a particular application of their skills and abilities, rather than just slotted techniques they can use, if that makes sense. Basically this allows a bit more flexibility when battles and actually do come up, since the Pokemon is not restricted to four specific techniques that can only be used one way.

That being said, the particular "moves" that he uses most often are as follows:
> Dig
> Leaf Blade
> Absorb
> Quick Attack
personality: IMPATIENT IMPATIENT IMPATIENT
Very direct and to the point method of dealing with problems
Does have a realistic/practical sense of discretion
Trust is really important to him,
Generally he's more trusting than he should be in a post-apocalyptic world
Possibly because there's evidence that he's not too shabby at reading people emotionally
RESOLVE so much resolve; does not know the meaning of failure
Willing to go through a lot and do a lot of awful things for causes and friends he cares about
He's described as having good judgement and leadership skills by Dusknoir
"It doesn't matter how long you live but what you do in the time you have" oh my god Grovyle stop being Axel

AUSLOSEN IC INFORMATION:
character name: Bentley [LastName]
appearance:
age: 22
history: Bentley was veritably abandoned shortly after his birth, by a mother who could not and did not want to keep him. As with many such children, he was soon placed in the foster system with a few other kids. At a relatively young age, a foster sister was introduced to their family that was about his age. The two bonded fairly quickly, and remained close for many years. There were other children in the household, and Bentley and his sister found pleasure in looking after their younger foster siblings.

Not to mention, once they got to school, they had each other's backs through a lot of the dangers an Auslosen student might face. While neither were stellar academics, Bentley got some notoriety for track. The sport was not nearly as notable as football and soccer and such though, and any attention he gained quickly faded after graduation. At the same time, he and his foster sister aged out of the foster system.

They both searched for work, staying near where they grew up to keep an eye on the foster kids in the area. Bentley got and worked a shitty retail job (and I mean shitty - awful customers, getting scammed out of wages, etc.) trying to secure a place for them to stay. However, at one point during this period, his foster sister vanished. While he never found out exactly what happened to her, there was evidence of foul play, and given his destitution, the police that he went to were unwilling to help.

For a while, Bentley worked alone, wanting to look for his sister but unsure how to. As this was going on, he was offered extra money (actual money, not the pittance of a salary he got for the work he did) to run some kind of message for his boss who was doing a lot of under the table dealings. Hoping the money might help in multiple ways, he accepted. En route, Bentley was ambushed by underlings of economic opponents of his boss. However, his street savvy skills and running speed allowed him to escape unscathed, to his surprise.

Soon he got another offer, then another, from multiple sources as his reputation slowly grew. He quickly realized that this kind of message running was much more lucrative than shitty retail. Plus while he was working with different groups, he was able to hear things. Learn things. Things that might better help him find his foster sister than amassing money to bribe the police.

For now that's what he's up to - biding his time, amassing information. Occasionally anonymously passing along info to the honest policemen he's heard of (he's heard a lot of information of all kinds while doing jobs) that might help them find missing people (especially ones that are still alive) and such.

personality:
In Auslosen, Bentley is generally a lot more directionless than he is in canon. Not that he doesn't have some goals and things he wants to do but overall he doesn't have a cause to really throw himself behind 100% like he does in Sky. He wants to find his foster sister and hopefully make sure they don't get separated again, but beyond that he doesn't really know what to do with himself.

That actually clashes with some of the personal philosophies that carry over on a subconscious level from his OU self. He doesn't want to just survive. He doesn't want to waste his life. He wants to do something worthwhile, something that will have impact and proved he existed. In canon, Grovyle has the knowledge and means to enact a great positive change. Bentley, meanwhile, is not nearly so lucky. He doesn't consciously realize all this though, and is merely left restless and discontent.

Despite this, he's a bit more open than he is in canon. In the world of the paralyzed future, most Pokemon are violent and hostile, which results in Grovyle tending to keep to himself and do things himself, with the exception of the few partners he trusts implicitly. Bentley, as a contrast, has grown up in Auslosen, which, while nowhere near ideal, is full of people that are much less constantly, openly hostile. He also perhaps trusts a little less easily, just from the nature of Auslosen itself.

Additionally, he's also a bit more patient. There will be times, when his emotions are particularly intense, that he'll display some of the same impatience that he has in canon. However, in Auslosen, especially after his foster sister had been absent for a while, he has learned the value of waiting for the right moment, especially with information.

job: Runner - generally delivers messages, packages, etc. of a sensitive and not-always-legal nature. Basically think like the Courier's job in Fallout: New Vegas.
fix: Looking after someone, particularly in a parental/older sibling sense. It could be as simple as buying a homeless person a sandwich, but generally speaking the more obvious it is that someone needs help and involved of help they need, the more effective it is (so for instance, a frantic child on the run from an abusive household needing advice and a place to hide for a few days would be much more effective than aforementioned sandwich)

ROLEPLAY SAMPLES:

both samples need to take place within auslosen.

third person: In the end, the unrest meant lots of potential work for him. And a lot of that work was dodgy has hell; he'd had more than one narrow miss lately than he would have liked. It was worth it though, he supposed. Being an information runner meant that he had his finger to the pulse of information among a lot of the gangs and money launderers.

It was easier to find information he wanted, that way.

first person: (this should be something that could be posted to auslosen's online community. you can link a test drive meme here (or, if you're reapping a character, a previous game thread), provided it contains at least 10 comments from your character.)
